Tekken Movie Poster Released In Japan

23 Dec, 2009

Be prepared to start chugging gasoline and throwing punches wildly in an Up Down Left Left Right formation! Warner Bros. of Japan has released a kicking sweet new Tekken movie website. For now, it’s just dangling a poster in front of our faces, but that poster is full of promise, because it has some incredibly spot-on actors portraying the characters.

Set in 2039, the film promises non-stop high flying action as the greatest fighters from around the world come to compete in the last and greatest sporting event of all time (MORTAL KOMBAT!!, er no…), the Fist Tournament. After World Wars destroy much of civilization as we know it, the remaining territories are no longer run by Governments, but by corporations; the mightiest of which is Tekken. In order to keep the masses down, Tekken sponsors the Iron Fist Tournament in which fighters compete to the death for ultimate glory and receive a lifetime of stardom and wealth.

We are introduced to this violent world through the eyes of Jin Kazama, a street fighter that enters the tournament in order to avenge the death of his mother that he blames upon Tekken’s powerful and controlling Chairman, Heihachi Mishima (Who ends up being Shang Tsung from MORTAL KOMBAT!!!). He knows that the only way to get close enough to Mishima to kill him is to win the tournament. With the help of Lucas, an ageing Iron Fist Champion and fight trainer, Jin makes his way through the tournament, but in doing so, he begins to uncover his own past and inner demons as well as exposing a dark underbelly to Tekken that threatens the very existence of humanity. With futuristic and imaginative sets, a compelling story, and fight sequences combining fighting styles from all over the world. TEKKEN is in line to become one of the greatest action films of all time.

There hasn’t been any news that this will be widely distributed, seeing as Warner Bros. of North America is absolutely devoid of any information pertaining to Tekken. Their loss!

  1. Cue all the game-to-movie-translations SUXXORZ!!!11!! comments!

I can’t contribute to this discussion as I am the one person in the world who didn’t mind the Silent Hill movie …

Silent Hill was a brilliant movie… I don’t get why so many people disapproved. Max Payne was a brilliant movie adaptation too.

Too bad there hasn’t been a Hitman movie… There has never been a Hitman movie… NEVER speak of the Hitman movie!!! IT WAS AN ABOMINATION! … ehem.

I LOVED the Silent Hill movie :P I’ve watched it like 20 times since it came out.
Also I’m pretty excited about this film, it wasn’t really a game that I would have expected to become a film, but I can imagine it would be really great. The Mortal Kombat films were ok, and if this atleast matches them then I’ll be happy, since I think it won’t be an easy feat to make this work.
On a side note…. if you ever get any news about the World of Warcraft movie, please update! :P I’m dying to see how that’s going to pan out.

I, too, will jump on the Silent Hill bandwagon!! I was so happy that A) It LOOKED like the game. B) They had music from the actual game and C) Cybil was a fierce bitch, just like she’s supposed to be.

I also enjoyed Mortal Kombat because I felt it captured the game perfectly, in its early ’90s cheesy-ness.
About what Steve said about Hitman, though… meh. Utterly disappointing. Almost as bad as Doom, except Doom KNEW it was going to be a hoaky fest.

Oh, and about the World of Warcraft movie: I believe it’s going to be just a Warcraft movie. Maybe modeling WC3. I know Sam Raimi is(was?) helming it, but I don’t know much ever since they first said something. I’ll keep an eye out!
