Christian Video Game Champions Non-Lethal Combat

Christian Video Game Champions Non-Lethal Combat

1 Jan, 2010

Here at GGS.com, we’re always interested in games that try to break the mould. As the industry seems to churn out fewer and fewer games that we can sit down as a family to play, I’m all for non-violent titles that try something a little different. Games that push the envelope, try something new. Well, what we’re about to tell you about is indeed all of those things – whether you want them to be or not . . .

Tribulation Knights is an unashamedly Christian video game based upon the biblical book of Revelations. An indie title set for release in Q2 2010, it purports non-lethal combat but maintains that it’s for religious and non-religious players alike.

Developed by fledgling indie house Atomic Design Laboratory, Tribulation Knights was written, produced, and developed by John Nelson, who asks visitors to the game’s site to “please remember that this is an indie operation and everything you see is the result of blood, sweat and tears. Not to mention the many late nights and weekends.”

For those, like me, who may not be fully up to speed on the book of Revelations, the plot centres around the “not too distant future”, when “a variety of disasters hit at the same time throwing the planet into turmoil.”

“Millions of people are dead in only a short time,” states the press release. “A deadly virus kills quickly as the economies of all countries fail in days, famine hits leaving everyone starving in weeks. Now chaos rules as people fight to live and survive.”

“The life of a Knight is not long, but it will be a glorious life spent in the service of God, country, and in service to those around them.”

Indeed.

Tribulation Knights is set to be released on the PC in Q2 2010. Is this something you’d be interested in trying? I’m not a big PC gamer myself, but I’m certainly intrigued by the morality around the non-lethal combat, and how the game will thread Christianity and Christian teachings through the narrative. How about you?

Hm…this has definitely peaked my interest. Despite the fact that I am neither a PC gamer, nor a Christian, I still think I’ll check this game out after its release. It definitely seems like a different approach to gaming, and I’ll be interested to see what exactly the game play involves. It’s always good to see something new, religious or not.

I’d definately have to see some gameplay videos or just some screenshots of this, because the idea of the game really doesn’t appeal to me, but if they pull it off well then I’m always open to try new things.

    • Check out the website for more info. There’s not much on there though, and what is there isn’t overly impressive …

Still – I have an open mind and I’m always interested in indie development. When graphics are crappy, or a game doesn’t necessarily have a multi-million dollar dev house behind it, sometimes more time and effort goes into a storyline, you know?
