Reminder: EA Sport Servers Closure

Reminder: EA Sport Servers Closure

Just in case you missed the memo – and I suspect many people may have – EA are planning to shut down several of their servers next month in an effort to move on and concentrate time and funds on newer titles.

This means that the online features of 22 of its sports games – including Madden 09 and several NBA titles – will cease come the 2 February. Unfortunately, it looks as those European sports lovers will be affected more than our friends overseas.

“All of us at EA would like to thank you for your valued participation in our online gaming community and hope that your enthusiasm for these games extends to our current lineup and beyond,” says EA. Translation: buy newer versions of our games, tightass.

  1. Wow that’s a huge amount of servers going down. I can’t even play Mercenaries 2 online with my friend any more because they have taken down the servers for that too. It’s a shame, I understand they have to do it to make room for new games but it’s quite irritating.

  2. Oh my. I don’t really play these types of games online, nor do I know many friends who do the same, but I still feel bad for those that are getting the shaft. I agree with your translation, though!

  3. I can imagine that it’s actually incredibly frustrating for people. If you buy a game with a certain functionality like online gaming, it shouldn’t be on the basis that that functionality is for as long as EA can be arsed to host it. Particularly if you only bought the game last year …

  4. :O
