2 Games Chopped For the PC?

2 Games Chopped For the PC?

13 Feb, 2010

Alan Wake publisher, Microsoft, has finally confirmed that the game will not be released for the PC. When asked about the decision a Microsoft representative stated, “some games are more suited for the intimacy of the PC, and others are best played from the couch in front of a larger TV screen. We ultimately realized that the most compelling way to experience Alan Wake was on the Xbox 360 platform, so we focused on making it an Xbox 360 exclusive.” For avid PC gamers this news came as an unwelcome reality, but rumors of it’s PC release cancellation had been circulating for quite sometime.

However, Alan Wake is not the only anticipated game being chopped from PC release. It was recently stated by EA that Dead Space 2 may not be release for the PC either. While this decision is still up in the air and there is no official cancellation, Dead Space 2 PC development has been halted for the time being. EA officially released a statement saying, “Visceral Studios is dedicated to delivering an outstanding Dead Space sequel for the Xbox 360 and PS3″.

It seems that games companies are now taking the ‘quality vs. quantity’ approach to developing; and sacrificing some system releases for better quality releases on other systems. This is no doubt a response to the hurting economy and the rising standards in gaming.

How do you feel about the PC cancellations? Do you agree that it’s best to focus quality release vs. the quantity of consoles a game is released on?

  1. I really don’t like this. About all I can really use is a PC for my gaming needs because I loan out my 360 and PS3 constaaantly. Yeah, that’s a personal problem, but I just don’t see the difference in playing. I’m cynical and thinking they just don’t want to put money into different adaptations of the game >:|

  2. This surprises me. I don’t know enough about sales v. costs, but it seems stupid to overlook such a massive demographic just because they game on a PC rather than a console!

Dead Space 2 not coming out for PC? That’s a joke. I don’t really care that much about Alan Wake (it’s an acronym for a.wake by the developers) because I don’t understand what’s ‘scary’ behind the concept of it.
