Recently EA has gone completely nuts cutting down on their open online servers. Not too long ago they had decided to close off online servers for games like Madden ’09, NCAA Football ’09, and Fight Night Round 3. Being older games, not many people paid much mind to them. However, EA has more recently released the names of 12 more games whose online servers are being chopped, as well as the dates.
The list is as follows:
March 16, 2010 Online Service Shutdown
Def Jam for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360
Godfather for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360
Lord of the Rings: Conquest for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360
Mercenaries 2: World in Flames for PC
Need for Speed: Carbon for PlayStation Portable
Need for Speed: ProStreet for PlayStation Portable
Simpsons for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360
April 15, 2010 Online Service Shutdown
Burnout 3: Takedown for PlayStation 2
Army of Two for PlayStation 3 (Asia only)
As well as original Xbox games, which were going to inevitably be closed due to the Xbox online servers being cut April 15th as stated in a previous articles. These games include; Battlefield 2: Modern Combat, Burnout 3: Takedown, and Madden NFL 09.
Surprisingly enough, some of these games are more recent releases having their servers closed. However, I do wonder whether this is a ‘time saver’ move, meant to give online staff more time to focus on other games, or due to the current world wide recession.
Are there any games YOU will be missing on this list?

No, there’s nothing here that particularly affects me … but that doesn’t make it any less irritating. When you buy a game in 2009, it’s only fair to think you have a year or two’s server grace before you get an announcement like this.
Not cool, EA. Not cool.
