Following its inaugural event last year, Gamescom is set to return to Cologne, Germany in hopes of repeating last year’s unbridled success.
With 245,000 visitors and 458 exhibitors from 31 countries, last year’s event made the history books by being the largest games trade fair in the world. Organisers want 2010′s show – scheduled to run 19-22 August inclusively – to be even better and are making all kinds of promises, including “spectacular indoor and outdoor performances, sensational live acts and the newest highlights from the gaming world”. (Oversell much? If it doesn’t have tightrope walking elephants and a jet-propelled air show, I’ll be sorely disappointed).
Preceding Gamescom will be the European leg of the Game Developers Conference 2010, which will run from 16 August until August 18.
“GDC Europe plans to offer attendees and participants outstanding new opportunities to learn and network,” says Frank Sliwka, Vice President European Business Development and Event Director GDC Europe. “This includes three major updates that will be added to the regular program featuring keynotes, lectures, roundtables & workshops and exhibition area.”
I’ll be there (only to check up on the elephants, obviously. It’s a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it). How about you?

I may have to look in to this. It would make a nice change to actually go to one of these things rather than read about it. :P
Ooh, sounds like we have a burgeoning GGS.com meet up in the works … ;)
I’d love to go to the Gamescom one day :O
It would be the perfect birthday present for me, my birthday’s on August 21st you know :) AND what makes it even better is that Germany is a neighbouring country! AWESOME!!! :D
