Now that the horrors of the PS3 day of death is over, I think it’s only fair to look back on it and laugh at our reactions to it – right? Think of this as an early community question for the week.
When you turned on your PS3 and found that it was pretty much useless, what was your initial reaction?
Let me start this off, my reaction was as follows:
Just gone midnight I had an MSN message from my friend Jenne, she said, “Trophy information cannot be found, Heavy Rain will now quit? WTF?” My reply was one of confusion, “What’s that about?”
Then she went on to explain that her other games were not working either and that she was currently researching it. She found out that there was a 55 page forum thread on it already, within just a few minutes. Naturally I thought it might be a PSN maintenance update and thought nothing more about it.
The next day I had my first opportunity to play Heavy Rain. Excited, I prepared the perfect play environment, fizzy drink, comfy seat and quiet house. “An update for this game has been found, would you like to install the update?” Yeah sure, why not…
Ten minutes later the install was complete and the Origami logo appeared, followed closely by a *Bink* sound and the error message.
Now getting to the gist of what my reaction actually consisted of. A wide eyed, surprised look, “What the he- OH NO THIS STUPI- Um…” Then I tried Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and nope, didn’t work. “Come on you useless piece of cr- for god sake” Then I did my little bit of research on it, only to find that Sony had not narrowed down the problem yet.
By then I was worried about it not being repairable because I had replaced my HDD inside my console and I thought I might have wasted all that money on a broken PS3.
So, midnight of the 2nd I was on MSN to Jenne again and she confirmed that her PS3 was working properly… ApocalyPS3 over.
Now it’s your turn. If you are willing to admit it, please post your reaction underneath.
Did you not care?
Did you get very very upset?
Were you angry?
Indifferent?
Tell us in the comments, it’s sure to be interesting whatever your reaction. Have fun!

Were you angry? YES, initially
I’d mised ut on playing Heavy Rain due to other commitments at the weekend, so I was itching to play it by monday.
But.. I couldn’t find a copy anywhere. Eventually, after trailing all through town in the rain, I found one in HMV (Last one in the shop)
Then I get home and my PS3 is out of action. AAARGH!!!!
But then I read the news and saw what was going on in Chile, and thought, the fact that we can’t play our PS3′s for a little while just isn’t something to get irate or angry about.
Then I went to play outside instead.
Did you pick up the Special Edition in HMV, or the standard one? I only ask ‘cos I got the special … although there doesn’t seem to be a hell of a lot more than the regular release!
Anyway, yes, you’re right – the horrific events in Chile do indeed help put things into perspective.
And outside? Really? With the 3D people … ?!
As I a) was offline with no internet and b) have a skinny PS3, not a fat one, I was okay.
As I’ve said on twitter, I’d like to think that I’d be calm in the face of it, but I think I’d be incredibly pissed off if I lost my trophies etc. because of such a stupid error.
I still hate Sony, Steve. :)
I was actualy turning my PS3 on so my mother (who wasn’t feeling well) could watch her gardening show on iView ABC, as she usually missed it when it’s on TV. However When I turned on my PS3 the iView wasn’t there at all, I tried to sign into the network and had no luck. I checked the internet on my computer was working and was a bit perplexed. However I was lucky that I didn’t try to play any games during this time.
The next morning I was at work when I heard on the Radio that there was a problem with PSN and advised not to use it O_o it was pretty awesome that they got that warning on the radio!
Other then that, not much fuss ^^
