Meet the Staff: Sarah James

11 Mar, 2010

Q. Firstly – give us your stats!
Name: Sarah James
A/S/L: 33/ F/ UK
Status: Single

Q: What’s the first game you ever played?
The first game I remember playing was Jet Set Willy at my best friend’s house. The first game I actually played all the way through was Super Mario Land on the good old original Gameboy.

Q. And what’s your life-changing game? You know, the one that made you realise that gaming was completely awesome?
That would have to be the first Tomb Raider game. I’d seen it reviewed on various shows before getting it free with my first Playstation bundle. I can remember being completely blown away by the graphics! (snort)

Q: And what is your all-time favourite game ever? Why?
Oh God. This is a really difficult question to answer. It’s a toss up between Final Fantasy X and Shadow Hearts: Covenant. In both games, the stories are totally awesome and immersive (both games made me cry at the end – what can I say, I’m a girl) and the gameplay is challenging without being stressful (that’s what I love about RPGs). If my favourite didn’t include RPGs, it would have to be Uncharted 2: Among Thieves – if you’ve played it, you’ll know why. ;)

Q: What’s your gaming set-up at home?
It’s pretty crap at the moment. I’ve got a PS2 and a PS3 and an iPhone (lol). Once I’ve replaced the dinosaur that is my laptop, I’ll be adding an Xbox 360 and a Wii to the collection – for research purposes for GGS, you understand. ;)

Q: You’re without doubt one of our busiest writers here at GirlGamersSuck, but how do you unwind and relax?

Gaming, gaming and more gaming! Not that I’m obsessed, or anything! If I’m not playing games you can find me messing around on my laptop either updating my websites or keeping up to date with news. When I really want to slow down, I’ll read – I’m a huge fan of epic fantasy; The Wheel of Time series (Robert Jordan) and A Song of Ice and Fire series (George R. R. Martin) being my favourites.

Q. Any nerdy gaming stories to share? Better yet, any embarrassing ones?
Well.. I’m sure everyone knows by now that I suck at Modern Warfare 2. In my defence, it is the first FPS I’ve ever attempted. After telling a work colleague about my purchase of MW2, he suggested we should play online together. Why not? I thought. We started off in a private match where he killed me before I even saw him, then I respawned and he knifed me before I had time to swear. The best bit is, the one time I did see him before he saw me, I aimed, fired and missed. He turned around and I was in such a panic, instead of firing, I jumped! Then died.
I have found one way to amuse myself though – when I know I’m about to die, I’ll do a running jump so that I can laugh at myself on the killcam. :D

Q. Do you collect any gaming memorabilia? If not, why not? If yes, what and why?
This is something I’ve only recently started thinking about getting into – lack of funds was the reason I’ve held off for so long. As of now, I’ve got a couple of Final Fantasy wall scrolls, one is Cloud (Advent Children style) the other is the FFXII group.

Q. What’s your perfect evening?
A Chinese meal, a bottle of Malibu and a decent game. What more could a girl ask for? :P

Q. Conversely, what would be your idea of a nightmare way to spend an evening?
Clubbing/partying. Occasionally it can be fun but, to be honest, I’d much rather be at home, snuggled up with a good book – or better still, a good game!

Q. Name someone, alive or dead, you’d like to share a Multiplayer experience with.
Billy Connolly (his language over the mic would be awesome).

Q. What job’s currently helping you to feed your gamer habit?
I am a technical adviser for a large, UK-based media company in their Broadband department. I work with awesome people who help make what could be a very tedious job very fun.

Have you tried resetting your router? :P

Q. Anything else you think our readers should know?
I LOVE chocolate and any donations will be gratefully received.

Q. Nominate the next GGS.com person to get the QA interrogation!
Steve Wood!

Got a question of your own for Sarah? Post it in the comments and she just might answer!
