In the preview to Left 4 Dead 2′s new DLC, The Passing, Rochelle and Francis discover they have something in common! They both hate things. However, this hate filled bonding session quickly ends when Rochelle lists Francis’ vest as one of the things she hates (in addition to some tiring stairs, and a stupid bridge).
Strange zombie apocalypse bonding aside; The Passing, which was released yesterday, now introduces a new feature called Mutations. According to the L4D blog, this feature will introduce new game modes that will be available for playing during the entire week. When the next week rolls in, the old Mutation will be ‘retired’ and a new one will be used. Once a month a poll will be raised allowing players to vote for their favorite Mutation thus far. The winning Mutation will return for another week to be played. The first week’s game mode will be ‘Realism Versus’ proceeded by ‘Chainsaw Massacre’.
In the Realism Versus game mode, items and survivors will have no glow on them, zombies will be tougher, instant kill witches, and more. This Mutation is only available for playing in versus. The Chainsaw Massacre Mutation will allow you to use only a chainsaw fueled with unlimited gas, and will be available only in Campaign mode on the second week. View the L4D blog for updates on each week’s new Mutation.
In addition to these new features, the desperate scribbles of other survivors are viewable on the walls of each safe house. However, a familiar name pops up in one of these scribbles. One note reads, “Otis, Out of film, no helicopter. Zombies are too fast. Not going to make it. – Frank West” Poor Frank’s final note was found by the keen eyes of the bloggers at Destroyed Controller. I wonder if any other familiar zombie survivors’ names will appear in later DLC?
