I doubt there’s a gamer out there who has not played at least one level of any Sonic game. If you haven’t then shame on you! Granted the series has produced a lot of crap (*cough* Sonic Unleashed *cough*), but that’s in the past. Its refreshing to know that SEGA know what makes Sonic great and has utilized this knowledge to produce the upcoming Sonic 4.

Due to overwhelming positive feedback SEGA has been given in response to this new episodic game they have decided to delay release slightly and push it back to later this very year. The additional time will allow the Development Team to focus on ensuring overall high-quality throughout the game by continuing to tune, balance, and maintain the kind of polish that an important title like this demands, and ultimately providing fans with an unrivalled classic Sonic feel.

SEGA is also pleased to confirm that Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode I will be coming to the iPhone and iPod Touch via Apple’s iTunes App Store.

Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode I is developed specifically for the download market and will be available via Microsoft XBLA, Sony PSN, Nintendo WiiWare and the iTunes App Store in late 2010.

So Sonic fans sit tight, and be sure to watch for this one on the gaming horizon.
