Youtube user, BlobVanDam, created a 3D rendition of Sonic & Knuckles’ Mushroom Hill Zone and has since gotten a shout out from Sega’s official blog:
“We’ve seen it for the love of Tikal, we’ve seen it! Honestly, I’ve been bombarded with all sorts of messages, some very excited, some downright rude, telling “SEGA” in no uncertain terms about the video. Truth is we saw it hours ago and think it looks absolutely awesome!”
As described on the video’s page, the project is actually a 3D rendering overlaying actual gameplay from Mushroom Hill Zone. Although not playable, the animated video is very impressive. Even the mini mushrooms dance around! Its absolutely delightful. The video is 360p but it still gives Sonic 4 a run for it’s money in terms of capturing that Genesis-era look and feel.
