Super Mario All-Stars for the Wii Rumor Confirmed
Earlier today news spread about a Nintendo retailer in Japan leaking information about a re-release of Super Mario All-Stars. Since then, the compilation has been confirmed by Nintendo of Japan on their website for a release date of October 21. The game is listed as Super Mario Collection Pack.
It remains to be seen if this compilation is a direct port of Super Mario All-Stars, containing Super Mario Bros 1-3 and Super Mario World, or if it will include any other Mario titles since then, such as Yoshi’s Island and Super Mario 64.
The original All-Stars collection was released in 1993 and featured cutting edge 16-bit graphics and sound. Although those graphics are charming, I wouldn’t mind if Nintendo polished up everything a little bit more, and I don’t mean 2.5D style.
With so many gorgeous side-scrollers such as Limbo, Muramasa: The Demon Blade and the Wii remake of A Boy and His Blob, it would be a shame if we got an untouched cash in from Nintendo. The listed price for the collection is equivalent to $30. If All-Stars was simply released on the Virtual Console it would be priced anywhere from $8-9. In fairness though, a soundtrack CD and a booklet will come bundled with the collection.
