Game Releases: September

Game Releases: September

4 Sep, 2010

Are you sitting at home thinking ‘gee, I wonder what I can look forward to this month in the world of video gaming’? Probably not, but nonetheless Slurms Mackenzie is here to guide you through what big games we can expect to see hit store shelves this month. I’ll even throw in some personal opinions of the games, see aren’t I nice? Bear in mind I may miss out some of the smaller releases, but do intend on covering all the bigguns. Let’s get cracking then shall we…

Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X 2
Xbox seem to have a deal with Clancy, considering that the PS3 version of the game is not released until the 10th. Some of you may have not played the demo and personally I don’t feel this game is anything to shout from the rooftops about. I mean it is a solid aerial combat simulator and looks rather good, but something just doesn’t sit right with me. Check the demo out before buying, that’s my advice.

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions
I love Marvel. I don’t read the comics religiously or anything, I just love the whole superhero thing, and I’ve got to say this game sure looks promising. Unfortunately I didn’t get any hands on time with it at Gamescom but this game is probably worth a rent at least. The combat mechanic looks pretty impressive and the whole four dimensions thing sure looks interesting. I’m sure some out there will love it.

R.U.S.E
As a fan of RTS games I can say this game is very impressive. It certainly seems to offer what you can expect from an RTS title and mixed in with nice graphics, so it seems like a good buy for those real time strategy folk amongst you. How it will play on the consoles is unsure but if you’ve got a good enough computer and you love RTS games then grab a copy.

Ninety-Nine-Nights 2
Hack and Slash. That is all. For more info check out my first impressions of the demo.

Halo: Reach
No doubt the biggest game release of this month, and it probably deserves that spot. This game will be huge no matter what happens. From what I saw in the Beta it plays very well. Mix that in with a totally revamped forge mode, an epic story and decent multiplayer and you have yourselves a winner. Xboxers will probably want to pick this up.

NHL 11
Sports games don’t sit well with me, I don’t see the whole draw of them. Yeah they can be fun now and then but in general they just bore me. Although I am a fan of ice hockey NHL still isn’t a must buy for me. If you’re a die-hard fan then go pick it up, but form my perspective this one’s a pass.

Two Worlds 2
This snuck up on us pretty quick. All I remember form the first is that it was piss poor, but maybe the second one will fix the huge list of hindrances from the first, but since I haven’t really paid that much attention to this release I can’t really comment.

Dead Rising 2
Zombie-gutting action at its finest. After playing Case 0 I can happily say this game will be pretty awesome. I’m sure many of you out there will also be looking forward to this release and hopefully we won’t be disappointed. Check out Andrew’s Case 0 impressions here.

Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock
Steve, Sarah and I were fortunate enough to give this game a quick go at Gamescom and all I can say is expect more of the same. There are a couple of minor new features but essentially it is just Guitar Hero with another new set list. Don’t get me wrong I love the Guitar Hero games, but I wasn’t exactly bowled over.

Playstation Move
Here it is ladies and gentlemen, Playstation Move. The first of the new ‘revolutionary’ motion control devices is launched this month and I greatly look forward to how the public receive it. The peripheral is obviously launched with a few games and doo-hickeys for more people to spend their money on. Let’s see how the Wii, oh sorry I mean Playstation Move goes down shall we?

Sid Meier’s Civilisation V
Another instalment to the Civilisation family is due this month. I did see snippets of the game at Gamescom and although I am not a huge fan of the previous games this one does seem pretty good. Obviously fans of the previous games will enjoy this more, but who says you shouldn’t give it a go?

That’s all the game releases I’m going to cover this month. Obviously there are a few more out there so don’t sit there thinking ‘What the eff he didn’t mention such and such’, but I only planned on covering the big names and big hitters.

So are you going to buy any of this fine selection? Where do you stand on Playstation Move and Halo: Reach? Leave your comments in the box below.
