Survival horror legends team up for Shadows of the Damned

15 Sep, 2010

With series like Resident Evil and Silent Hill gravitating more towards thrills and spills than the proverbial mind-buggery we’ve loved them for, the survival horror genre has been looking a little thin on the ground recently.

However, the next horror masterpiece could be just around the corner as EA and Grasshopper Manufacture, the Japanese development team responsible for Killer7, No More Heroes and the latest installment in the Fatal Frame series, announce Shadows of the Damned.

The game will star grizzled motorcycle-riding demon hunter Garcia as he battles and puzzles his way to the four corners of Hell to rescue his lost love, kidnapped by a cavalcade of horrifyingly grotesque monsters. The premise sounds fantastic, but perhaps the most exciting news of all is the veteran survival horror triple-threat at the heart of the game – executive director Goichi Suda, Resident Evil producer Shinji Mikami and Silent Hill‘s legendary musical director Akira Yamaoka. Hold on to your hats people.

Speaking in a press release sent out by EA earlier today, Goichi Suda – affectionately known as Suda51 – spoke about the game and Grasshopper’s new partnership with EA.

“We are excited to finally take the cover off our latest project and invite gamers from around the globe to experience this new, warped world we have created. By partnering with EA, a publisher that truly shares our commitment to quality and innovation, we have been able to develop Shadows of the Damned according to our ambitious vision while creating an entertainment property we believe will appeal to a global audience.”

Shadows of the Damned is due Summer 2011, for release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. For more information and some beautifully disgusting concept art head to the official site.
