Welcome to our weekly Community Q!
Once a week we flip the tables and listen to what you guys have to say . . . rather than sitting back and make you listen to us!
Community Q: Some people couldn’t give a rat’s ass about achievements and trophies. Some people really, really do. Which are you? If you don’t care, why not? If you do, why are they important to you? And do you have any outstanding trophies that you really, really want to get?
Tell us your opinion – and your reasons behind it – right here in the comments! Or how about joining our forums and talking about it over there? :)
Got an idea for a future Community Q question? Drop us a line and tell us about it!

Yes, yes I do.
At the beginning of current-gen, Xbox Live achievements took over my very existence and my motivation behind trading it for a PS3 was largely due to the fact that trophies don’t have a ‘score’ attached to them so therefore they won’t mean as much and I’ll actually play games to play games. Didn’t quite work out that way.
I have grown out of that since, mind. The size of my e-penis is still there in the back of my mind but I only play games I enjoy now.
On my Xbox 360 I go out of my way to unlock achievements, even on older games that I don’t play as much any more whereas oddly enough on my PS3 I’m not as bothered.
It may have something to do with the amount of friends I have on each console. I have more friends on Live so therefore I want to compete and keep up with them.
At the same time I’m not so concerned with improving my overall gamer score but I certainly view the achievements as a means to signify how far I’ve gotten with a particular game.
I used to be very “serious” about my achievement score. If I bought, or even rented a game, I HAD to at least try and score a 1000. However, in time, I began to care less about my score. Mostly just found I didn’t have the time to unlock every little thing. :(
Won’t lie though, I still occasionally check out a games achievement list before I pick up the game. ;P
I’ve never really cared about my gamerscore, maybe If I played more online I would, but as it is it is a just a way of allowing me to follow what I’ve done.
That being said, i do still get a bit of a glowing feeling inside when I do get an achievement! :D
I have a friend that just LOVES achievements. He’s not super competitive about being better than other people; he just likes to unlock everything for himself. I like to try for the ones I think are fun, but am not interested in spending the time to do something that’d otherwise be meaningless for the sake of an icon or superfluous bonus. I do like it when games have achievements though and my favorite ones are those gained via “normal” gameplay over a period of time “Kill 1000 Zombies” or “Burn 5 People who have shot you” or something. Things that just happen eventually or you can gun for them early.
