Campaign Matchmaking for Reach next month

20 Sep, 2010

We’re six days in and most of us are up to our eyes in Reach-y goodness – myself included – but already the lovelies at Bungie have detailed a host of extras they’re planning on patching in over the coming months. Campaign Matchmaking, the first of these updates, is due in October.

So why wasn’t it there in the first place? Props to Bungie – for a very good reason. Matchmaking doesn’t take into account individual player progress. Instead, players enter a lobby and vote for which stage they want to play together, meaning those that picked up Reach on launch day might have unwittingly wound up playing the campaign completely arse-backwards, spoiling the experience entirely.

“The first matchmaking update for Reach will occur in early October and consist primarily of fixes for bugs and balance issues. We’re not done testing them all yet, but when they’re ready we’ll fill you in on all of the little details. We’ll also be adding some game types and Forge maps. Co-op campaign will be going live in October as well.

Campaign matchmaking will not take into account what your current progress is, so if you’re worried about spoilers make sure you finish campaign before jumping into this playlist!” – Bungie Weekly Update: 09/17/10.

Other game types tipped for inclusion sooner rather than later are Firefight Versus and Rocket Race, with even more in the pipeline. Halo: Reach was released worldwide on September 14th and has already become Microsoft Game Studios’ biggest-selling game of all-time, making a cool $200 million in the US and UK alone.

  1. Glad I played through the campaign on my own first then. Although it wasn’t exactly that long a game.

If you played it on normal, then the game is about 5-6 hours. Mind you, you only really got half the experience of the campaign then.

I personally have no interest in campaign matchmaking though.

I did it on Heroic and that got pretty tough towards the end, the last few stages took a while. I’m vowing to finish it on Legendary solo eventually though.

This will be pretty cool to use, especially with the daily and weekly challenges.

The only weekly so far has been “Complete 9 campaign levels on Heroic”, so it was nice to have a wingman (or 3) to help, especially with some of the harder levels.
