Rumour: Project Milo might be cancelled

23 Sep, 2010

Back in the day, when Kinect was first announced as Project Natal, a little tech demo popped up everywhere showing a small virtual boy interacting with a woman. He reacted to her voice by carrying on a conversation, and even showed emotional reaction to the things said. It was cute. It was creepy. It seemed far too good to be true. I know that it was something I was really looking forward to picking up in the future with Kinect’s launch.

But now it looks like Project Milo might be cancelled.

According to a source close to the project, 19 contractors were let go from the Milo project yesterday, which inevitably resulted in the games cancellation. The source also mentioned that those left on the team would be putting all that good Milo-tech to good use for a “Fable themed Kinect game” instead.

It seems a bit of a shock to hear of the cancellation when only a month ago, the brain behind Milo, Peter Molyneux, was questioned on the status of the game. Did he think that it was going to be on the shelves soon? “I wouldn’t be working on it if I didn’t hope that to be true, yes,” Molyneux said.

Sadly, when Microsoft was questioned regarding the cancellation, they didn’t have much to say: “Microsoft does not comment on rumour or speculation.”
