This week’s chart brings some surprises – the main one being that Halo: Reach was only at no. 1 for one week?? F1 2010 proved that it’s got what it takes to shake off the competition as it races in (heh) at no. 1 this week.

Other new entries include Dead Rising 2 and Civilization V, coming in at no. 3 and no. 4, respectively. Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock has set up stage at no. 6 and Final Fantasy XIV has come in at a not too shabby no. 10.

Hmmm… well considering the crazy sales figures for Reach’s first week it’s a wonder it hasn’t dropped further. F1 will go the same way – it’s gone nuts this week!

  2. Wow, I’m quite surprised to see F1 at the top considering the Halo: Reach launch. Does this mean it didn’t actually do as well as predicted?

Actually, it surprises me less than I’d have thought. Some of the guys I work with – guys who hardly ever boot up their consoles – have gone nuts for F1, including picking up steering wheels etc. So if it has the power to enthuse casual gamers, then it’s little wonder it’s jumped into the top spot!

Thing to remember is that the gaming chart works the same way as the music chart. If every man, woman and child goes out and buys 6 copies of the bloody, buggery X Factor Christmas single it’ll go to number 1. Of course, that means no one will buy it the second week and it’ll drop out of the chart. Chart positions are calculated on a week-by-week basis, not on cumulative sales.
