Gears of War 3 originally was confirmed for April 2011, but today Microsoft Games Studios has confirmed that the title has been pushed back at least 5 months forcing it to land in the Q3-Q4 2011 slot.
Explaining the surprise, Microsoft said it wants the game to be it “the marquee title for the holiday season”.
“Gears of War 3 promises to be the biggest entertainment launch of 2011,” the company said in a statement issued to Kotaku.
“The teams at Microsoft Game Studios and Epic Games have done great work thus far readying the title for release in the spring of 2011. However, we’ve elected to move the launch of Gears of War 3 until fall 2011 to make it the marquee title for the holiday season.”
Delays aren’t a bad thing as long as the end result is worth the wait. With Gears of War being one of this generation’s best franchises, the finale needs to be something special, so lets hope Epic use the extra time to make sure the multiplayer works this time. I guess we can play BulletStorm until then.

We played the multiplayer at Eurogamer and it was actually brilliant. That’s coming from someone that’s never enjoyed Gears multiplayer in the past.
