Bungie bans 15,000 Reach cheaters

3 Oct, 2010

Xbox Royalty Bungie have banned a massive 15,000 players from it’s hit title, Halo: Reach, and promise that they will be relentless in their pursuit against cheaters, in an open letter published in their website. According to the report by Eurogamer, shamelessly opportunistic little Halo fans have been taking full advantage of an exploit which allows them to earn large amounts of in-game credits from the daily and weekly Challenges. Bungie have stated that this is possible via “network manipulation and other easily detectable workarounds that fall well outside of standard gameplay”.

Bungie are responding to the exploit by thwacking the devious little players across the head with the ban-hammer and strip them of their illegitimate gains. Players affected by these measures will be informed by an in-game message that they’ve been caught out, and be banned from earning credits for 24 hours.

“Spot checks have revealed the tell-tale signature of this behaviour on every denier so far, so don’t be fooled by the protests of innocence. We aren’t.”

“We are in the process of applying credit resets to approximately 15,000 users who we have identified as the most egregious Challenge Reset abusers.

“A one day credit earning ban has also been applied, mostly to ensure that recipients receive an in-game notification of the action taken.

The developers are taking a hard line against players who seek to exploit their baby, warning that anyone looking to try a get-rich-quick scheme in Reach should seriously reconsider.

“A more comprehensive pass will be occurring in the coming week as our automated Banhammer mechanisms grow accurate enough to satisfy our high bar for burden of proof. If you are thinking about getting an easy 50k credits by using this exploit, I would strongly advise you to reconsider.”

Halo: Reach is available now for Xbox 360.
