Kirby’s Epic Yarn is shaping up to be this year’s New Super Mario Brothers Wii. Dated for a North American release of Oct. 17th, Kirby’s new adventure is a different take on the traditional Kirby formula. Instead of sucking in enemies to take their abilities, Kirby uses his yarn to transform himself and manipulate his environment.
Check out this new 3 minute trailer. Apparently the beads that are collected can be used to decorate Kirby’s house. Watch the whole thing for a good rush of nostalgia. There is an amazing remix of a classic Kirby song. I hope its in the actual game. A new ability in which Kirby becomes a train makes use of the Wii pointer, having the player draw the tracks on screen. This trailer also confirms King Dedede (in yarn form of course).
This second single player trailer compiles a lot of footage, showing off a lot of new abilities as well as the inclusion of Meta Knight and his sky ship, Halberd. Kirby’s Star Chariot, which hasn’t been seen since the SNES days looks like it will also be included for some horizontal and vertical shooting sections.
One of the things I was worried about with the new Kirby was how slow things seemed to move. After seeing these trailers that feeling is somewhat alleviated. Instead of double-tapping right or left to run, Kirby turns into a little car and scoots along at a good pace. Combined with the shooter elements, the surfboard sections, and the dune buggy level, Epic Yarn seems fast paced enough for me.
