In the industry’s current climate, with the Asdas and the Walmarts of the world doing their level best to wipe gaming retailers off the face of the Earth, it’s little wonder street dates get broken.
It’ll be no surprise then, to hear that Kinect has been sold early in the US. Unfortunately, the lucky few that have received their device ahead of the November 4th launch date won’t be feeling so lucky when their Xbox 360 is temporarily locked out of Xbox Live.
Inserting a shiny new Kinect game into your console will prompt an update. Installing this update will go relatively smoothly and restart your console. Then you will be prompted to install another update – the new dashboard – which will fail and not only disable the use of your Kinect device, it will lock up your connection to Xbox Live. In a statement issued to Joystiq, Microsoft explained the issue.
“Due to a retailer error, a very small number of customers were shipped copies of a Kinect game ahead of launch. Since Kinect does not launch until Nov. 4 in the United States, customers who insert the game into their console before then will be temporarily unable to access Xbox LIVE. The retailer is contacting affected individuals directly to warn them of this situation.”
Kinect launches in the US on November 4th, with a UK release following on November 10th.

You’d think people would realize that playing a game before its release date might have negative side effects…
