Heavy Rain deleted scenes revealed

8 Nov, 2010

Heavy Rain has been said to be one of the most successful examples of gaming bridging the gap with cinema, and like any good blockbuster release it comes with lots of tasty extras for the fans. Gaming website Eurogamer has today revealed footage cut from the final version of Heavy Rain (which is now available for download via Playstation Network), even showcasing a scene which featured an additional victim of the Origami Killer that hit the cutting room floor due to being deemed ‘too radical’.

Cut footage also reveals the original gameplay concept behind Ethan’s mysterious blackouts, which elaborated far more on the concept that there was a supernatural or psychic connection between Ethan and the killer. This idea was dropped due to oversaturating the story and the creators were not to hot on the idea of reinforcing the supernatural elements of the story. The history of Madison Paige as a character is also touched upon in more detail in the omitted scenes, telling the player that her insomnia stems from trauma rooted in her time as a war correspondant earlier in her career. Designs are also shown for entire chunks of potential gameplay that added more to the players experience of being Madison, but were dropped it seems in the name of keeping her as enigmatic as possible. Naturally this footage contains spoilers relating to Heavy Rain’s plot, so those who intend on playing the game be advised!

Safe to say, without the decisions to cut a lot of this material, Heavy Rain could have been a very different game!

Heavy Rain in available now for PS3, in both a standard edition and for Playstation Move.

I really don’t see why most of these scenes were removed. All of them except Shelby’s scene would have made for a better experience in my opinion. In addition, they never explained how Madison knew Norman Jayden.
