Day one of the biggest selling game of all time (CoD: Black Ops) saw a patch that addressed “quick-scoping” which plagued players of Modern Warfare 2 where zooming in with a sniper rifle instantly gave you a kill shot. Seems that wasn’t the only problem with the game but the only one fixed so far.
PC players have been reporting serious lag issues with online multiplayer, but the Playstation 3 seems to have gotten the short end of the stick. Not only is the version inferior on a performance level but quite a few bugs has appeared that don’t seem to exist in other versions at the time of writing. It’s bad enough to warrant a list:
- Party Invite System not working, unable to join friends even with public chosen
- Leaderboard not reading correct kills
- Framerate issues, affecting gameplay
- Theatre mode not working correctly
- Respawns, issue spawning near enemies on smaller maps
- Game freezing PS3 Console
- Party option “Leave with party” not working correctly
- Locale Search option not working
- Mic’s not showing in lobby
- Error “Disconnected due to transmission Error” appears after some games
The 360 isn’t without issue also. Like other versions, hit-detection along with latency seems to be causing issues, even for the ruggedly handsome man writing this post. I recorded footage of the hit-detection making no sense earlier today:
Treyarch’s Josh Olin (@JD_2020) says patches are being made as we speak for all versions to bring stability to the game. Earlier this week he had tough words to say to anybody intentionally cheating.

I noticed this when I was playing the multiplayer, and Christ is it a pain in the ass!
Personally I haven’t been all that impressed with Black Ops so far. It reminds me a lot of World at War, which similarly I lost interest in and generally didn’t enjoy playing. I know Infinity Ward are gone, but what I really want is Modern Warfare 3, which is probably why I am finding myself uncontrollably biased towards disliking Black Ops. The Modern Warfare games were the only games in the COD series that I enjoyed, and I’d love to someday see the continuation from where MW2 left off. I am trying my hardest to really get into Black Ops, but for some reason I just don’t find it that engaging. Then again, when I think that COD4 is still my favourite of the last few COD games, any sequel has a lot to live up to.
