Assassin’s Creed III due for 2011?

26 Nov, 2010

Eurogamer have today reported that Ubisoft plan to release another ‘big’ Assassin’s Creed title in 2011. Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood was released on November 19th this year to a warm critical reception and with 1 millions copies shifted to date. With Brotherhood serving as the conclusion of the story of Ezio Auditore’s current chapter, you could be forgiven for assuming that the forthcoming title could well be Assassin’s Creed III.

Ubisoft’s European Marketeer Geoffroy Sardin expanded upon the announcement made earlier this month by Publishing Boss Yves Guillemot, when in an interview with MCV he said:

“Yes, Yves mentioned it last week in our financials – and more details will be forthcoming. But what I can say is that next year we will have another big Assassin’s Creed game,”

The news of another sequel so soon will comes as a surprise to those who read the summer interview with Ubisoft Montreal’s Jean-Francois Boivin in which he stated that Assassin’s Creed would not become a franchise to release a title every year, and ample time would be allowed between releases. There were concerns from fans about the speed in which Brotherhood hit the shelves so soon after Assassin’s Creed II, but those doubts were laid to rest with Brotherhood’s improved gamplay and engaging multiplayer modes.

Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood narrowly avoided the top spot in the UK All Formats Chart to Call of Duty: Black Ops by an estimated 63,000 units, however the exact figures for sales in the USA are yet to be confirmed.

Brotherhood is currently available on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
