Enter the World of Hunted

20 Dec, 2010

Painfully dodgy cockney accents aside, I’m curiously intrigued by Hunted: The Demon’s Forge. I’ve gone from chalking it up as a bland, unoriginal hack’n'slash at Gamescom to taking a very serious second-glance at Eurogamer thanks to the dev session, and a brief chat with the developers over coffee, at Eurogamer earlier this year.

(An aside: I think my initial problem was E’lara, our ass-baring leading lady. As kickass as she undoubtedly is, the misogynistic character design turned me right off and I found it hard to see past that. After watching a little gameplay, however – and in particular, the intricate and grossly beautiful boss/monster design – I realised the surprisingly depths of the game and had to re-assess. I’m glad that I did.)

Hunted is a “fresh take” on survival horror/fantasy that “delivers the intensity and action of a modern-day cooperative shooter”, according to the press shoot. I have to say, from what I’ve seen, this certainly looks to be the case; with expansive environments that range from urban to rural to dungeons to forests, wise-cracking Caddoc and pantie-impaired E’lara battle through waves of wizened, Welsh creatures.

Okay – so they’re probably not really Welsh. But as the duo are twisting through the desolate town of Dyfed, you’ll forgive me for getting confused …

Long story short: this game is back on my radar. And today Bethesda have dropped a teaser trailer to keep us sated over the Christmas period.
