PS3 Players Petition Treyarch over ‘sloppy’ CoD: Black Ops

26 Dec, 2010

Following a swell of dissatisfaction with the PlayStation 3 version of Call of Duty: Black Ops – and a patch that appears to have failed to address the major issues of lag, server migration, and poor frame-rate – gamers have taken matters into their own hands by petitioning developers Treyarch and demanding their money back.

As Trading Standards protects consumers from faulty and damaged products across the UK, the petition is employing the 1979 Sale of Goods Act in a bid to claw back their money for a game they claim is “unfinished, sloppy and degenerate”.

“Is it fair to charge Playstation 3 owners the same price for an inferior product, when both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 had the same amount of development time?” says the petition webpage. “Is it fair to charge Playstation 3 owners the same price for an inferior product, when the previous version (Modern Warfare 2) was equal on both systems but the updated version (BO) is not? Is it fair to charge Playstation 3 owners the same price for an inferior product, when the previous version (Modern Warfare 2 on PS3) looked visually better than BO looks now on PS3?”

Treyarch say that they’re listening to PS3 players, but with over 10,000 petition signatures and rising, it’s clear that they’re not doing enough fast enough to satisfy this huge wave of discontent.

Whether or not the petition has the legal teeth to bite Treyarch remains to be seen. What is clear, however, is that there are a lot of very unhappy gamers out there …
