Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II – Retribution Race Pack Pre-order Exclusives

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II – Retribution Race Pack Pre-order Exclusives

6 Jan, 2011

THQ recently announced pre-order packs that will be available for the up-coming Retribution add-on for Dawn of War II. THQ are going for a particularly interesting pre-order strategy by releasing six individual ‘race-packs’ for pre-order, or the larger collectors edition. This will allow fans of the series to pick and choose their favourite race and buy accordingly.

Dawn of War II – Retribution Collector’s Edition will give the most dedicated Warhammer 40,000 fans access to all of the available bonus wargear for each of the six playable races in the game as well as an exclusive poster, six race art cards and a high-quality collector’s box. This will go on sale for £39.99. Looks like the one for me!

Fans of a specific race can pledge their allegiance by pre-ordering one of the six available specific race packs for the same suggested retail price as the regular version of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II – Retribution, £29.99. These race packs are only available for electronic distribution and only available for pre-order. Each race pack includes four unique abilities and Wargear items that can be used to enhance the single player campaign. The Ork Race Pack is exclusive through Steam and the Tyranid Race Pack exclusive through the THQ.com E-Shop. The Space Marine, Chaos Space Marine, Eldar and newly announced Imperial Guard race packs are available for pre-order through the THQ.com E-Shop, Steam and other electronic distribution partners. Post launch, gamers will have the option of purchasing the specific race packs digital content through Steam for a nominal fee.

Newcomers to the Dawn of War II Universe also have the option of pre-ordering the Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II – Complete Collection which includes Dawn of War II, Dawn of War II – Chaos Rising and Dawn of War II – Retribution for the special suggested price of £49.99.

This certainly is an interesting strategy for releasing exclusive content. Allowing the player to choose a particular race seems an awesome way of spurring on rivalries between race-loving players! Fortunately for greedy beggars, like myself, the collectors edition gives it all for a reasonable price. I’m sure fans of the series will be flocking to pledge their allegiance as soon as possible!

  1. New to GGS so having a little back-read, but this is great!
Loving the idea of being able to chose which force to support and duke it out with your friends (unless ALL of your friends play Space Marines, and your the only one who plays Tryranids!!).

Also; £49.99 for all three titles is a great deal.. Worth it for sure if someone is new to the game.

Thanks for the post, keep it up :)
