If like me you’re not just a games nut but a comic nerd, then you like me will be excited for the release of Marvel Vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds. On January 6th though, another surpise came to the already drooling audience…
Two new characters had been added to the roster: Mike Haggar from Capcom’s Final Fight franchise and Phoenix from the Marvel comic X-Men. The reveal trailers posted on Capcom showed off not just the characters but the general awesomeness of the game. No matter what side you’re on – Marvel or Capcom – you really want to check out these two new additions to an already star-studded cast.
We start with Phoenix who is actually the mutant Jean Gray (a psychic), the container of the cosmic Phoenix Force. It gives her almost god-like powers and to bring Phoenix fully to life within the game they’ve even included Dark Phoenix (the Phoenix Force in full control of Jean’s body) which can be unleashed by knocking her out with a full hyper combo gauge. Bearing in mind that in the comics the Phoenix Force eats whole planets … I don’t think it’s going to have much trouble chowing down on the unlucky gamer. (Yikes!)
Other “confirmed” (assuming that there maybe more announced before release) Marvel characters include legends like Storm, She-Hulk, Magneto, M.O.D.O.K., Spider-Man, X-23, Dormammu, Thor, Deadpool, Hulk, Wolverine, Iron Man, Captain America, Doctor Doom and Super-Skrull. By the looks of things I’m going to be in heaven with this batch of awesome combatants. You see, Marvel holds a dear place in my heart; especially the X-men from which Phoenix originates.
However, while Phoenix is out shooting fireballs and teleporting around the stage; Mike Haggar, former wrestler now turned politician, is a classic brawler-type character which Capcom are reknowned for – big biceps, gruff voice and plenty of pile drivers. If you want to hurt someone in this three on three duel to the death, Haggar is your man and even though I know less about the Capcom franchise save for Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe and Street Fighter, I’d want Haggar to back me up. If he turns up on the other side … I may wet myself a little.
Haggar will star alongside his Capcom cohorts Crimson Viper, Zero, Arthur, Nathan “Rad” Spencer, Wesker, Tron Bonne, Viewtiful Joe, Amaterasu, Dante, Ryu, Morrigan, Chris Redfield, Felicia, Trish and Chun-Li. Which – I dare say – are looking to give Marvel a run for their money. Frightening, when you think that Haggar may not be the only addition.
I personally think, Marvel vs Capcom 3 is looking to be a huge game this year. A lover of comic books and beat ‘em ups alike; I think the only thing that could stop me getting this game could be a nuclear winter…

Yayyyyy, Phoenix. <3
The only thing I don't really like about the game is the music. It sounds very generic and boring, to me. :c
