Don’t get too excited people. Indeed, Sony have announced the imminent Tomb Raider Trilogy, the latest in their Classics HD range, but Lara’s classic Core Design days are nowhere to be seen. Boo hiss boo!
Instead, the trilogy – all remastered in high-definition and packed onto one Blu-ray disc – will contain the Crystal Dynamics adventures: Legend, Anniversary and Underworld. Unfortunately, apart from trophy support, a bonus XMB theme and bonus outfits for use with PlayStation Home, PS3 users aren’t really getting anything Xbox 360 owners didn’t have three years ago.
Though Underworld has been readily available on PlayStation 3 since its release in 2008, PS3 users missed out on HD versions of Legend and Anniversary when they came out in 2006 and 2007 respectively. The question is, will these games be upscaled renditions of their PlayStation 2 counterparts, or ports of the superior Xbox 360 or PC versions?
We’ll find out when the Tomb Raider Trilogy is released on March 22nd.

When I first heard about this pack, I was hoping from Tomb Raider’s 1-3, not these more recent packs. Disapointing.
Yeah, I agree Mikey. Releasing HD versions of the original classic games would be so much more worthwhile for those of us that played them growing up and would be bound to sell by the bucketload. This collection seems ever-so-slightly pointless. Trophies though! xD
This…….makes no sense. Where are the classics? The point of making a sales pitch is by delivering solid titles that older gamers enjoyed in the past. I’m not exactly sure what the intended audience is. The older titles must already be on the PSN marketplace.
They are indeed, Brandon! But only in the US, unfortunately. The EU PSN store seems to be suffering because of disputes over publishing rights so we’ll probably never see them over here. Plus they’re on there in their original pixellated glory, whereas having all five original PSX titles on one budget-release disc with a lick of HD gloss and surround sound would be something I would definitely be putting my money down for.
lol, damn. Stupid game title so misleading.
