Since the release of the long-awaited PlayStation 3 demo of Mass Effect 2 last month, BioWare have released various snippets and specifications alluding to the graphical and technical improvements made to the game.
The obvious improvements and changes stem from the fact a build of the Mass Effect 3 engine has been used to create the PlayStation 3 version of Mass Effect 2. Following the demo’s release in December, Mass Effect 2′s new look has been the subject of scrutiny, with Eurogamer publishing a new ‘Face-Off’ article examining the two versions side-by-side, close-up and in painstaking detail. Their verdict? No better, no worse, just different.
However, today BioWare have confirmed that the PS3 demo was in fact created using a two-month old build of the Mass Effect 3 engine and maintain the final version will look even better. Community coordinator Chris Priestly has previously teased that the PlayStation 3 version of the Golden Joysticks 2010 Ultimate Game of the Year will look “clearer and more vibrant on PS3″.
Mass Effect 2 was originally released on Xbox 360 and PC in January 2010 to massive consumer and critical acclaim and went on to win numerous awards including the Golden Joysticks ‘Ultimate Game of the Year’ and the Spike Video Game Awards ‘Best RPG’.
Mass Effect 2 is released on PlayStation 3 on January 21st, in stores and as a download via the PlayStation Network.
