The PlayStation 3 version of the Golden Joysticks’ Ultimate Game of the Year winner Mass Effect 2 has today hit the EU PlayStation Store, priced at £47.99. Before you ask – yes, that’s a couple of quid below the RRP, but around £10 higher than most retailers.
That is of course before you factor in that the Xbox 360 version, released a year ago this week, can be picked up in various sales for under £10. The price-tag seems to have put off a lot of potential new players, mirrored in the game’s chart performance as Mass Effect 2 re-enters the top 10 at number 7. Not a terrible performance, though the numbers do include additional Xbox 360 sales.
Mass Effect 2 was originally released in January 2010 to massive critical acclaim and a hugely positive consumer response, shifting two million copies in its first week and garnering more than thirty perfect review scores. The PlayStation 3 version has been created using the Mass Effect 3 engine and has been described by developer BioWare as much more than a simple port.
