Christmas is cancelled… Microsoft can free Live Gold weekend

Microsoft’s festive free Gold weekend for Xbox Live users has been cancelled, according to Eurogamer.

Last week the gaming website reported that Microsoft’s Voice of the People™, Major Nelson, had announced a bonus Gold weekend commencing January 29th, awarding a few free days to current Gold members and bringing full online gaming functionality for those still pondering upgrading their Silver memberships.

However, Xbox Community Manager Graeme Boyd today announced via Twitter that the free weekend is “postponed in almost all European countries.”

Amongst the apologies, no explanation for the delay has been given. However, for users in Russia, Poland, Greece, Czech Republic and Hungary the promotion will go ahead as planned.
