A sequel to the vastly underrated 2K comic book FPS ‘The Darkness’ has finally been confirmed for a late 2011 release, continuing the journey of Mafioso-come-demonic-host Jackie Estacado. It’s launch title predecessor, was considered by many to be one of the sadly overlooked gems of the current generation launch, blending stylish comic book visuals with face pasted FPS action.
Developement of the sequel is being placed in the hands of Dark Sector creators Digital Extremes, who will take over from Starbreeze. The story will see Jackie Estacado, host to one of the universes malevolent elements ‘The Darkness’, rise the heights of Boss within one of New Yorks most feared crime families and utilise the devil on his shoulder in a full scale mob-war.
Top Cow boss of bosses Marc Silvestri, one of the creative minds behind ‘The Darkness’ comic universe came forward with some words of encouragement, hoping to put the fans minds as ease:
“Sometimes that whooshing sound you hear is that of comic fans holding their collective breath. So often disappointed when a favourite character gives birth to a lame movie or videogame, us fans have come to expect the worst. And sometimes we get it- but not with The Darkness II.”
“Yeah, call me biased, but this second instalment of Jackie Estacado’s epic saga is – in my humble opinion – one of the most brutally cool games I’ve ever played. 2K Games hammered this one out of the park.”
As a fan of both the game and the comic book universe, this little reporter will be waiting with baited breath of this little gem to hit the shelves!
The Darkness II is schedueled for a Fall/Winter 2011 release, on Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC.
