Activision planning Take-Two takeover?

11 Feb, 2011

Rumours are rife that publishing giant Activision are plotting their next move in their quest for world domination – to acquire Take-Two Interactive, the team behind Bioshock, Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption.

Speculation comes hot on the heels of a rocky week for Activision, in which they dissolved their multi-million selling Guitar Hero franchise and cancelled development of True Crime: Hong Kong.

A “senior executive” told MCV, “There are very strong rumours amongst people at a very senior level within the global business.”

“But there’re not much more than that at the moment – they are just rumours. And, of course, given Activision’s news this week, everyone is now looking to see what their next move is. But you can definitely put two and two together and make four-ish.”

This won’t be the first time Take-Two have been approached; back in 2008 they famously rejected a very public takeover bid from Electronic Arts.

Activision and Take-Two are collectively responsible for some of gaming’s biggest and most successful franchises including Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, World of Warcraft and Civilization.
