BioShock 2 PC players finally get Protector Trials DLC. Or not.

They say the course of true love never runs smooth. This is definitely the case for a legion of PC users still in the throes of passion with 2K Marin’s sick, slick first-person horror shooter, BioShock 2, over a year after it was first released.

On Saturday those patient souls were able to purchase the Protector Trials, a content package first released for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 back in August 2010. Unfortunately for them, it wasn’t supposed to be there and those that have already shelled out 400 Microsoft Points for the pack – despite conflicting reports saying it would be free – have been denied access to the content within.

’2K Elizabeth’, the team’s community manager, spoke to perturbed users via the official 2K forums; “Before we all get out our pitchforks, please let me look into what’s going on. These were not supposed to go live and I’m looking in to the mistake now.”

One user commented, “Liz – no offense – you are wonderful – but why is everything related to this game (on the PC particularly) being executed so unprofessionally?”

She responded, “Mistakes happen – sometimes out of our control. I’m the head of community, so if you feel that you weren’t treated well, I’m stepping up and letting you know that’s my failing.” And a plan of action for those that have already unwittingly paid for the content?

“It’s the weekend now, so I won’t have an update for you until Tuesday at the earliest.”

2K Marin controversially scrapped plans to bring the Protector Trials and story content pack Minerva’s Den to PC users, citing “timing and technical issues”. They changed their stance on the matter following a community backlash.
