A concrete release date for the final instalment in Epic Games’ award-winning alien warfare trilogy Gears of War has been officially announced by Xbox Community Manager, Graeme Boyd.
Boyd – a.k.a. AceyBongos – confirmed via Twitter this afternoon that Gears of War 3 will be hitting stores worldwide on September 20th, except for Japan, where it will be released on the 22nd.
Gears of War 3 was originally planned for an April 2011 release, but was pushed back to “make it the marquee title for the holiday season.”
GoW3 follows on eighteen months after the fall of Jacinto. Imulsion, Sera’s energy source, has infected pockets of the Locust, transforming them into the ‘Lambent’. These super-powered alien beasts aren’t only a threat to humanity, but to the remaining Locust as well.
The epic finale to the multi million-selling trilogy will feature a four-player co-op campaign, brand new multiplayer modes, three new female playable characters and a stellar voice cast featuring hip-hop artists Drake and Ice-T, Farscape star and veteran voice actress Claudia Black, plus recurring performances from John DiMaggio, Nan McNamara and as Locust Queen Myrrah, the wonderful Carolyn Seymour.
We got to take Gears of War 3′s explosive multiplayer for a spin way back in September at the 2010 Eurogamer Expo. Check out my Eurogamer Diary for my first impressions!
