Community q: best movie tie-in?

Community q: best movie tie-in?

4 Mar, 2011

Welcome to our weekly Community Q!

Once a week we flip the tables and listen to what you guys have to say . . . rather than sitting back and make you listen to us!

Community Q: you can almost set your watch by it; a new Hollywood blockbuster, closely followed – or sometimes even preceded – but a plethora of gaming tie-ins. And whilst we could be here all day listing the ones we didn’t dig so much, what about our favourites? Are they any that buck the trend, or are they all a little meh to you?

Tell us your opinion – and your reasons behind it – right here in the comments! Or how about joining our forums and talking about it over there? :)

Got an idea for a future Community Q question? Drop us a line and tell us about it!

I can’t honestly think of one that I’ve felt was worth playing, though I admittedly haven’t played many as I tend to give them a wide berth. They seem to be an obligatory part of cinema these days, especially animated films. I feel sorry for the developers that get tasked with making them, with a fraction of not only the film’s budget but also the development time. Then they’re forever associated with total bilge pressed to a disc we’ll invariably end up using as a coaster.

They are fairly obligatory for animated movies anymore. I’ve heard good reviews of Batman: Arkum Asylum, but haven’t played it myself. Generally I assume those games will be “meh” and don’t even consider them. Maybe that is too hasty, but it feels too gimmicky.

  3. What about Goldeneye? (N64 version of course) Classic game. Although that’s really the only example I can think of, I’ve heard Arkham Asylum is good as well Audrey.

    • That’s true, Toby! (Welcome again, by the way!) I don’t think GoldenEye was really meant to be a movie tie-in though, rather a game based on a film. Whereas later Bond games like Tomorrow Never Dies (shit) and The World is Not Enough (not much better) were more like tie-ins.

Was Arkham Asylum a film? Again that’s a game that feels like it wanted to be a game, not just thrown together for the sake of it in the style of, say, Megamind or Harry Potter.

      • Thanks for the welcome! Glad to be here! =D

Yeah I wasn’t sure whether GoldenEye could really be classed as a movie tie-in, but it’s the closest thing I could think of that’s actually any good. I suppose the same goes for Arkham Asylum. In that case I really cannot think of any good movie tie-in games; it’s just a shame they keep getting spewed out.
