With more and more substantial Xbox properties breaking their allegiance in the last year or so – Dead Rising and Mass Effect to name two – it’s no surprise to hear that a growing number of developers are coming around to the idea of bringing their own blockbuster titles to the PlayStation 3.
The latest to jump on the bandwagon are Epic Games. Their subsidiary team People Can Fly are currently setting the charts alight with Bulletstorm, the shooter equivalent of an episode of Shameless, but perhaps they’re better-known for their award-winning multi million-selling Xbox-exclusive third-person shooter series, Gears of War.
US gaming business publication Industry Gamers were at this week’s Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, where they quizzed Epic Games president Mike Capps about the possibility of Gears appearing on the PlayStation 3 in the future.
“Do we wish we could take all those Killzone and Resistance fans on PS3, and get them to say ‘Gears is awesome’? Yeah, sure I’d love to ship the Gears trilogy on PlayStation. That would be fun. I want to be there; I want to be everywhere,” he said.
He went on to explain why dealing with Microsoft has been so beneficial for them. “The amount of support they put behind Gears, it was really to launch their platform, to show what Xbox 360 could do.” As for Gears of War on PS3, Capps refused to confirm or deny the possibility, simply stating, “We definitely own Gears of War. This is our franchise, our IP.”
Gears of War 3 is released on September 20th, exclusively for Xbox 360.
