Square Enix’ shameless cash-in/trip down Memory Lane (delete where applicable) continues this week as 1994 SNES classic FINAL FANTASY III (or FFVI as it’s better known) arrives on the EU Virtual Console.
Numerical confusion aside, this particular FINAL FANTASY is regarded as one of the best in the franchise’s 24-year history and with very good reason. FINAL FANTASY VI stars a triple-A cast of fourteen colourful characters including amnesiac sorceress Terra, wily treasure-hunter Locke and the most deranged clown since Ronald McDonald, the villainous Kefka.
A thousand years on from the devastating War of the Magi, the long-buried Espers – magical beings set in stone so that their powers may never be abused – are being reawakened. The treacherous Gestahl, leader of the Empire, is using the Espers as an energy source to create Magitek, the merging of machinery with magical power, putting the world in great danger.
FINAL FANTASY VI was voted 25th best video game of all time by Famitsu readers and won an IGN poll to name the best in the series. European Wii owners can see what all the fuss is about by downloading it from the Virtual Console, available now for 900 Wii Points.

It is a shameless cash in, but I may get this one anyway. I replay this game at least once a year and it will save me the trouble of digging out my SNES in future.
Music to my ears Tanya – I bloody love this game!
This is not confirmed.
Thanks for your comment, Deacon. Our press release says otherwise and, even better, the game is out.
Def not confirmed. Not showing on the Nintendo website.

What’s this then?
Ahh in Europe. My apologies. Not in the US yet then.
No, my fault. Made a little change to avoid any more confusion. :)
