Fresh from picking up 3 awards at the BAFTA Games Awards for Heavy Rain, Quantic Dream have confirmed they are already working on their next title.
However, after Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy and Heavy Rain, they are promising to bring something different into their Interactive Drama games.
Quantic Dream’s David Cage spoke to James Gallagher (PlayStation Blog) about Heavy Rain’s success and the next Quantic Dream project.
For our next project we’re going to build on what we have discovered with Heavy Rain. We own this genre of Interactive Drama and we want to show that Heavy Rain was not a coincidence; it is something that makes sense and we can build on it.
David went on to confirm that a Heavy Rain sequel isn’t going to happen, and instead a different type of story is being worked on.
At the same time, we will not make a sequel and I made that very clear from the beginning, regardless of whether the game was a success or a failure, because I wanted to show that this is a new genre that you can use to tell any kind of story, in any style.
We’re going to be exploring a different direction, which will still be very dark and still for adults, but completely different to Heavy Rain. Our challenge is to satisfy our fans, and also surprise them.
I’m sure that many fans, like myself, are eagerly awaiting to see what Quantic Dream release next. Fahrenheit was a great game in my opinion; one that I thought didn’t get nearly as much praise as it should have. Naturally I was delighted when I saw that Quantic Dream were working on another game. Again, Heavy Rain was spectacular and the awards it picked up recently only tell you what everybody already knew.
I’m sure QD’s next title will be just as great, although Heavy Rain will be very difficult to top. A change of story genre could either make this new game or break it. We’ll just have to wait and see!

Ah dammit, I still haven’t seen anything in-person about Heavy Rain. Damn being poor and not having a PS3.
My student loan helped me pay for my PS3 in my first year at uni haha a worthy investment I feel! But Heavy Rain is a great game, if you ever get a chance to play it, please do! :)
