New Resident Evil Title Announced

24 Mar, 2011

After an earlier announcement of a remake for Resident Evil 4, Capcom has dropped the ultimate fan service bomb by announcing an upcoming title for all next-gen consoles: Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City. No date has been confirmed for this release, except for it might be sometime this fall.

There are only bare bones details about this title known so far. It is under development by Slant Six Games, the developer that was behind the Socom series, and that the title is a stand alone in the Resident Evil series. Players don’t have to play through classic Resident Evil titles in order to understand the gist of the plot. Gameplay is a team-based FPS that sounds a bit like Left 4 Dead, with four members working together in one team. Experience points are doled out for each kill made in game, and can be used to buy new abilities, and weapons.

For those of you already chomping at the bit, here’s the real kicker. According to TeamXbox, during the course of the game your actions could potentially end the life of Leon Kennedy, one of the lead characters in the series. Did you really hate him that much? Rest assured, if his attitude didn’t make you want to beat his face in, then watch Resident Evil: Degeneration.
