Sony’s PSP Successor Delayed

Sony’s PSP Successor Delayed

5 Apr, 2011

Waiting for Sony’s new gizmo and wanting to see what it can do? We may have to wait just a little bit longer. Sony Computer Entertainment America president Jack Tretton made a statement to Reuters today that the new Playstation Portable system may be delayed due to the disasters currently affecting Japan.

Codenamed “NGP” (and popularly known as PSP2), Sony had originally intended to release it’s brand new handheld system internationally to be in time for this year’s holiday shopping season. However, because of production problems and disruptions caused by the earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Japan, the handheld system may only be offered in one exclusive region. Tretton declined to comment on which region may get the first privileges to their handheld system.

With the market scrambling to snatch up as many of Nintendo’s 3DS systems as it can, this delay could prove devastating in the long run for Sony, but that’s something you’d need a crystal ball to predict.
