If you were blown away by the massive talent that had already pledged to work on Play For Japan’s upcoming musical album, then you’ll probably have to take the next space shuttle back to Earth, because more super stars are joining in the fun.
Akira Yamaoka, best known for his work on the Silent Hill series, announced earlier this month that he was beginning a project called “Play For Japan: The Album.” The musical compendium of the industry’s best composers from all over the world is currently in the works, and will be available for sale on iTunes to benefit the disaster-stricken nation of Japan.
A news article posted today on Play for Japan’s website has announced several more upcoming artists that have pledged to join in this project. Now on board are Jason Graves, best known for his work in Dead Space, Inor Zur of Fallout and Prince of Persia fame, and Penka Kouneva, who recently worked on Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands and also Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. They are joining Woody Jackson (Red Dead Redemption), Bear McCreary (SOCOM 4), Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger), and Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy series).
Looking at the names associated with the project, any serious video game music connoiseur would be dying to get their hands on this fabulous piece right about now. No release date has been mentioned yet, and no news on whether or not the album will be released in other formats, but Play For Japan says, “Stay tuned for additional artist announcements and some fantastic news soon!”
Let’s hope it’s a release date announcement, and hope for a physical album as well.
