New Screens Released for Silent Hill: Downpour

15 Apr, 2011

When the sun goes down, and all goes dark, do you end up jumping and running for cover when you hear a siren? Or do you wish you had at least a kitchen knife when it gets foggy out?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, then maybe you shouldn’t keep reading.

Konami released a new batch of screen shots today from Silent Hill: Downpour, the 8th installment to the long standing survival-horror series. We’re treated to several screens of the protagonist, a supporting character, and a few impressive and eerie looks of Silent Hill both enshrouded in fog and in the Other Universe.

Konami states that Downpour “brings a completely original storyline,” so we may see nods to earlier incarnations of Silent Hill. Maybe Pyramid Head will come looming out of the dark and make us wish we had at least kept the lights on while playing the game.

In Downpour, you assume the role of Murphy Pendleton, a prisoner who finds himself stranded in Silent Hill after his transport bus crashes near the town. “What happens after is up to the player as they traverse an all-new environment that is expansive, yet unsettlingly claustrophobic,” says Konami. Scary and claustrophobic? Now that’s a great recipe for a beautifully horrific disaster.

The title is hinted to be released on both the XBOX 360 and Playstation 3 in Fall 2011.

Is it bad that the screens remind me of Alan Wake?
