RAGE gets Co-Op and Combat Rally!

18 Apr, 2011

id Software are the masters of the First Person Shooter. All you need to do is look at their back catalogue if you need proof. Wolfenstein, Doom & Quake. So, it is no surprise that the September 16th release of RAGE has a lot of people excited. After today’s news, however, that excitement may well be at fever pitch.

At an event held in Utah, id Software showed off some of the multiplayer portion of the game to select press and detailed two brand new modes. The first will be called RAGE Combat Rally. The mode can either be played competitively or co-operatively and will feature up to six players. One variation on Combat Rally will see players go up against each other and the objective of the game will be to pass through rally points and take out leaders of an opposing team. Sounds like our death rally dreams come true!

That wasn’t all id Software had up their sleeves, however. In a first for an id Software game, RAGE will feature a co-operative story mode that supports both online and local multi-player! In a mode known as Legends of the Wasteland (so very Fallout, isn’t it?), you and a partner will play through missions that are based on events in the single-player portion of the game. While it’s a shame that the whole single-player component of the game will not be playable in co-op, this new information was an unexpected surprise and has me even more buzzed for the final release.

Not enough for you? How about a brand new trailer filled with in-game footage? Check it out after the drop …
