Prey 2 Developer: “More games should focus on single-player.”

We’re back on the lonely road, and this time, it really isn’t that lonely. In a world filled with MMOs and multiplayer games, sometimes it’s refreshing to see a title that’s focused on the lone warrior like Prey 2.

Human Head, the developer for the next Prey title, has revealed that it will take about 15 hours on average to complete the single player campaign. Now, that’s just the bare bones “I gotta get this sh–stuff done” run through. However, if you add in all the side quests, missions, and exploration bits, it’s probably going to take you a hell of a longer time.

Chris Reinhart, project lead for Prey 2, talked about the decisions to lose the multiplayer in an interview with Eurogamer. “We’re focused on making it a strong, powerful single-player experience,” said Reinhart.

While he didn’t have much to say in regards to the love affair with multiplayer games, Reinhart did comment that he would like people to become more focused on single-player experiences. Competing with powerhouses like Call of Duty will only lead to mediocre experiences all across the board.

“I love playing multiplayer. My big thing with that, if you’re not going to be able to beat or exceed Call of Duty, don’t do that kind of multiplayer,” said Reinhart.

“If you’re going to do multiplayer, do something else that fits with your style of game, and something that’s going to be really fun, that’s going to get people to play together in this game.”

Reinhart suggested that such a divide in focus between single and multiplayer is what becomes the bane of many developer and publishers’ existence.

“I would want to make sure developers put their focus in the right place and area,” he said. “Taking and watering down both single-player and multiplayer is not good for the developer. It’s not good for the publisher. It’s not good for the game player.”

Well said Reinhart, well said.

Prey 2 is due out in 2012, and will be available for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.
