The Last Guardian Delayed from Original 2011 Release

The Last Guardian Delayed from Original 2011 Release

20 Apr, 2011

Team Ico, the studio responsible for bringing us the epic and beautiful tale Shadow of the Colossus, has announced today that The Last Guardian has been delayed.

Fumito Ueda, Director and Game Designer for the PlayStation 3 exclusive title, was (and still is) very apologetic about the delay. He has not commented on an anticipated time frame for when the title will be released now. Since the original date was a vague “Holiday 2011,” the best guess would be some time in 2012, maybe even Holiday 2012.

Ueda, however, did leave a very apologetic message on the Europe Playstation Blog:

I announced at last year’s Tokyo Game Show that the release timing of The Last Guardian which is currently being developed would be holiday 2011.

However, to provide more challenging and better quality of content to users and to fulfill First Party Studio’s obligations, I decided to postpone its release timing.
All the members of my production team are working together at a fast pace to develop and release the game in First Party Studio quality.

I sincerely apologize to all the customers who have been waiting for “The Last Guardian” for so long, but I beg for your patience. I will also announce the new release timing at a later time.

The highly anticipated title is said to push PlayStation 3′s capabilities. Given how the debut trailer looked at last year’s Tokyo Game Show, it’s a safe bet that the end product will blow our minds. Take a look:

Now, if you’re in the dumps about the announcement, then maybe you shouldn’t read on.

EU Playstation also confirmed that the re-release of Shadow of the Colossus has been delayed as well. There is still no word on when this title will become available, since the original date was said to be “Spring 2011,” which is right about now. We can only hope that all is well with Team ICO and that they will deliver The Last Guardian in a grand and colossal fashion.
