Do you remember this guy? Hint, he really wasn’t Mark Wahlberg in a movie in the beginning. No, he was an angry man who was betrayed by everyone and had a gun. He wasn’t The Punisher either.
First published in July 2001 for Windows by Remedy Entertainment, the game revolved around Max Payne, who was a former New York police officer and a renegade DEA agent. The game won a BAFTA award as best PC game in 2001 through the use of unique film noir story-telling mechanics and featured bullet-time, that one thing that Keanu Reeves made really popular with The Matrix.
And here’s where it gets even better. Rockstar Games published ports for the title later in 2001 to the Xbox, Playstation 2, and the GameBoy Advance (whaaaat?), so those of us who weren’t cool enough to have a gaming PC could play the title.
Fast forward to 2011, and Rockstar Games is diligently working on Max Payne 3 and have thoroughly teased us stupid with some screenshots. If you thought Rockstar couldn’t continue to be…well, rockstars, then you’d be wrong.
Check out these screens.
No official release date has been given for the title yet except for a “Coming Soon.” For some of us, it’s just not soon enough.
The original Max Payne is available for download as an Xbox Originals on the Xbox Live service.
