Catherine Aims to Steal Your Heart Away July 26th. Now with Boxers!
It’s pretty much agreed upon that Catherine is NSFW all across the board. Atlus decided to push that just a little bit further with the announcement of their Deluxe Edition. The adventure-puzzle game will be trouncing on to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on July 26th in North America for both the standard and collector’s edition. There is no news on whether or not it will release in Europe.
So, what kind of swag will you be expecting in the Collector’s Edition? Well, it certainly won’t be just the same old same old. Oh no, you get something on top of the art book and the soundtrack if you pre-order. How about some polka dot boxers and a provacative pillow case? And what better than that than have it delivered in a pizza box from Stray Sheep, one of the late night drinking locations featured in the game?
If you’re scratching your head over why polka dotted boxers are included in the CE, well, it’s from game protagonist Vincent’s personal closet.
Okay, so you’re still confused about the game, and why you’re getting scantily clad people on pillow cases. In Catherine, you play as Vincent, a man who is just as scared of committing to relationships as elephants are to mice (I’m sure there can be personal parallels drawn at this point). When Vincent’s girlfriend Katherine starts dropping not-so-subtle hints about going to the next level, Vincent does the expected – he starts…er, messing around. Predictably, he gets tanked with a couple friends and meets Catherine (certainly not to be confused with Katherine), a gorgeous girl who is as flirty as they can get. Being liquored up, the expected happens. And, of course, Vincent can’t quite remember the next morning why is he waking up next to Catherine.
As the player, it will be your job to make the decisions that will either make or break the relationship that Vincent has with Katherine (or Catherine? I’m getting so confused now), and you must battle the demons of guilt and face fiendish puzzles as Vincent sleeps. If you fail to save Vincent in his nightmares, well, we’ll just have to see what happens.
Intrigued enough yet? Check out the teaser trailer:
Who knew that we’d one day get a game where horror meets psycho-opera rock, dating sim, and get capped with a slammin’ soundtrack? Atlus, you may now proceed to take the rest of my funds from the bank.
